Hello, after last nights MSMGA meeting I was elected President. I have been in the sheep industry for the last thirty years. Grew up showing sheep in the 4-h program and over the last few years I have gotten into the meat goat industry raising boer and boer crosses. I have a small herd of mostly ABGA registered goat and I am starting an A.I. Program having just bought semen straws on an auction from Able Acres Boer Goat on www.breedersworldonlinesales.com. Looking forward to the next two years serving as your president.

Some of the things we talked about were planning a market goat shipments for this fall so our members could get a good price on their goats by shipping them back east. The trailers would be a triple decker that holds 1000 head and a double decker that holds 650 head. The price per head for member and non member is still under debate. Possibly having a fall commercial sell and or show, dates brought up were the end of September or the first weeks of October.
If you have 4-h or FFA age kids you need to have the goat you tag for the state fair 60 days prior. The state fair is September 5-15 so make plains on attending the fair this year. All blue ribbon goats in the fair this year will sell!!
We are working with IFA on a custom goat pellet to maximize our growth rates. Bob Young is the man we are working with through IFA, possibly a 17 percent protein and 6 percent fat was brought up in the meeting.
Also the use of Kiko bucks with Boer does so there was less problems during labor due to smaller birth size, increase highbreed vigor and weaning weights.
Will be looking in to grants to help further along the Mountain States Meat Goat Association.
Sincerely your President
P.S. comments on the future of the MSMGA are appreciated
