We are having kids and here are some of them, they are all out of MVA1 OLAF, and this is a unregistered buck out of a LIL'FUGLY daughter. His name is LIL'MAMMOTH.
some more kids out of MVA1 OLAF, These are out of Kohlee a NON-STEP RANCH DOE, that was bought online. They have not been named yet.
With the warm temps and the pasture starting to grow, we move the does to the big field. The kids are growing good and moving them to the big field gives them more room to run around. Only down side for them is no A-frame or barrels to play on. Still have eight does due the end of march first part of april. All but one are breed to MVA1 OLAF. MVA1 PIPPI LONGSTOCKING due with AABG PUMPED UP KICKS kids in april. Looking forward to her due date. Now its time to look over pedigree and decided who the yearling are going to be breed too this spring. Then plan out when and who the rest of the does get breed too. Last set of does are due the end of june all are breed to MVA1 OLAF.
THE KIDS ARE LOOKING GREAT THIS YEAR. MVA1 OLAF KIDS ARE THICK, BIG BONED AND 30% HAVE BLACK HEADS. WE ALSO GOT A BROWN DOE OUT OF NO QUESTION(4 X 900 BUCK) AND MVA1 VALERIE. DCW BJ'S HOT SHOT SON, JR HERDSIRE PROSPECT
I have started to sprout barley for feed for the goats. I first saw this at the state fair a couple of year ago. After watching a couple of videos on you tube I decided to try it. I sprout about 3 lbs. of barley seeds per tray each day and there are two tray a day for a total of 14 trays for a seven day cycle, about 6 lbs. of seeds each day. 3lbs. of barley seed sprout and grow into about 15 lbs. in seven days so I harvest 2 trays and start 2 trays every day and produce about 30 lbs. of feed a day. The goats eat it all, root mat and tops. this should help with feed cost, for each 50lbs. of barley seeds it sprouts into about 250lbs. of feed in seven days.
trays in rack day two.
finished barley sprouts day seven. time to feed
After having a mild winter it was nice to have a lot of rain in may! That really got the pastures growing and some of the hairy vetch we planted last year is growing good and is starting to make flower, lets hope the seeds spread around the field. We weighted MVA1 OLAF today and he weighted 81 lbs. at 124 days old, that is .55 lbs. a day weight gain. He will start breeding does in august. We have alot we are going to breed to him to see how well he transmits his traits on to his offspring. Hope the color gene, both black and red shows up in his kids. The wethers and MVA1 OLAF like their A-frame to play on.
PICTURE OF THE OS (insemination gun goes in there) start of the cervix
We did some A.I. in april and got a decent picture of the OS, this is were you have to put the insemination gun in and passed the two gates (you can feel a click). Then you deposit the semen and hope they find an egg to fertilize. We also sent some does down to LEVAN RIDGE FARM to breed to DCW B.J'S HOT SHOT (DCW BO JANGE SON) so we will get some kid this fall from live coverage. MVA1 PIPPI LONGSTOCKING was acting like she had morning sickness the other day (don't know if goat get morning sickness) hope the A.I. worked she got a PDF Z012 FULL PROOF straw, would love to get a buck from this breeding. Brought home the wethers and doelings from the big field to sort for tagging for the fairs. The march kids look really good MVA1 PENNY (FERN HOLLOW FARM Z9056 DAUGHTER) should do good in the percentage class, and MVA1 LILLY (SOGGY BOTTOM JAZZ DAUGHTER) should do in the fullblood class. Still have some does due in june. Then we will do A.I. again in july and start breeding to MVA1 OLAF (AABG OPTIMIZER SON) he has a black cape and will be breeding our percentage and pureblood does. He is a pureblood buck. Also got more semen straws from BOSQUE VALLEY REPRODUTIONS CENTER in texas, LAZY S-T COPPERTOX(SPOTTED BUCK), EQUALIZER, 2DOX V-MAX. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
MVA1 PIPPI LONGSTOCKING
WE ARE HAVING A VERY MILD WINTER AND IT HASN'T HELPED WITH OUR KIDDING SUCCESS, GO FIGURE. LOSSING DOES THAT WERE PREGNANT WITH A.I. BABIES, HAVING DOES BREED BY A.I. HAVE KIDS AND NOT TAKE CARE OF THEM AND LOSE THEM, ITS BEEN ONE OF THOSE YEARS. WELL THATS ENOUGH COMPLAINING. WE HAVE HAD A.I. KIDS OUT OF AABG WATCHA WANT, AABG OPTIMIZER, ERWIN LIL'FUGLY, AND KELLY BLINDSIDE. STILL HAVE FERN HOLLOW FARM Z9056 KIDS DUE IN MARCH. CAN ONLY LOOK FORWARD TO SPRING A.I. BREEDING AND HOPE IT GOES BETTER THAN THIS LAST YEAR. AT LEAST WE HAVE A BLINDSIDE DOE(ONE OUT OF FIVE KIDS BORN) AND A REALLY NICE AABG OPTIMIZER BLACK CAPED PUREBRED BUCKLING MVA1 OLAF WHO WILL BE BREEDING THE PERCENTAGE/PUREBRED DOES. MVA1 LIL ' STUFF THE THANKSGIVING A.I. DOE IS GROWING GREAT, HER WETHER BROTHER IS DOING GOOD ALSO.
WE GOT THANKSGIVING TWIN KIDS OUT OF ERWIN LIL'FUGLY AND SFB1 FANTASY, ANOTHER A.I. SUCCESS. WE ARE REALLY HAPPY WITH HOW VIGOROUS THEY ARE. THE BUCK WAS UP AND TRYING TO NURSE BEFORE HIS SISTER WAS EVEN BORN. IT WILL BE FUN TO SEE HOW THEY GROW AND FILL OUT. THE DOES ARE BAGGING UP AND ITS WILL BE COOL TO SEE THE KIDS WE ARE GOING TO HAVE THIS YEAR WITH SO MANY OF THEM BEING BREED BY ARTIFICAL INSEMINATION.
